Izmia's Quest Notes - Chapter 3 : Tablets and Texts containing the Secrets of the Universe
Once again Izmia opened her notes and started her lecture. This time, it talked about the sacred texts and tablets said to contained the secrets of the Universe.
"CHAPTER III - THE TABLETS AND TEXTS CONTAINING SECRET KNOWLEDGE
In this chapter, we will see different texts and tablets that were said to contained secret and sacred knowledge, giving access to the secrets of the Universe and Eternity.
The most famous ones are the Tablet of Destinies, the Golden Fleece and the Emerald Tablet.
I - The Tablet of Destinies
The Tablet of Destinies is a mythological object from Mesopotamian mythology that was said to hold immense power and control over the fates of gods and mortals alike. The story of the Tablet of Destinies is closely tied to the creation myth of Mesopotamia, which tells the story of the god Marduk and his triumph over the forces of chaos.
It existed in the age of the old gods of Sumeria, when EnlilWP reigned as the king of the gods rather than Marduk. The tablet was stolen by a monstrous bird, called Anzu by the Akkadians and Imdugud by the Sumerians, who was a "demon of storms, a god that brought great clouds and strong winds."
Anzû was the servant of Enlil, but stole the treasure while his master bathed. This act engulfed the world in darkness and brought the wold close to ruin.
As the royal authority of the tablet will not respond to those undeserving, Anzû gained nothing from it.
The Hero-God Ninurta reclaimed the tablet and restored the world. After being passed to Gilgamesh at the dawn of the Age of Man, the usurpation of the royal authority Anzû failed to gain was accomplished by the King of Heroes.
The myth of the Tablet of Destinies is significant because it represents the struggle for power and control over the universe. It also represents the importance of fate and destiny in Mesopotamian culture, and the belief that these forces were not arbitrary but were determined by the gods.
II - The Golden Fleece
The myth of the Golden Fleece is an ancient Greek tale that tells the story of a hero named Jason and his quest for the Golden Fleece, a symbol of wealth and power. The story is believed to have originated in the Bronze Age and has been retold in various versions throughout history.
According to the myth, Jason was the rightful heir to the throne of Iolcus, but his uncle Pelias had usurped the throne and banished him. Years later, Jason returned to claim his throne, but Pelias agreed to surrender it only if Jason would bring him the Golden Fleece, which was said to be guarded by a fierce dragon in the distant land of Colchis.
Jason assembled a crew of heroes known as the Argonauts and set sail on a perilous journey to Colchis. Along the way, they faced many challenges, including the Clashing Rocks, the harpies, and the sorceress Medea, who fell in love with Jason and helped him to obtain the Golden Fleece.
In alchemy, the myth of the Golden Fleece is interpreted as an allegory for the process of spiritual purification and transformation. The Golden Fleece represents the alchemical goal of transforming base metals into gold, which is symbolic of the transformation of the human soul from a state of ignorance and impurity to one of enlightenment and spiritual perfection.
The dragon that guards the Golden Fleece represents the primal, unconscious forces that must be overcome in order to achieve spiritual transformation. The journey of the Argonauts symbolizes the alchemical journey of the soul, with each challenge they face representing a step in the process of purification and transformation.
The sorceress Medea, who falls in love with Jason and helps him to obtain the Golden Fleece, represents the feminine aspect of the soul and the transformative power of love. Through her help, Jason is able to confront and overcome the dragon and obtain the Golden Fleece.
Overall, the myth of the Golden Fleece is a powerful symbol of the alchemical journey of the soul and the transformative power of love and spiritual purification.
In some alchemic legends, the Golden Fleece is in fact a vellum written on a golden sheep skin that is said to contain the secret of the Philosopher's Stone, the transmutation into gold and the Elixir of Life.
If this vellum still exist, we don't know where it is.
III- The Emerald Tablet
The Emerald Tablet is a legendary artifact in Western alchemy that is said to contain the secret of the prima materia, or the substance from which all matter is believed to arise. The tablet is believed to have been written by the Egyptian god Hermes Trismegistus, who was revered as the god of wisdom, magic, and alchemy.
The myth of the Emerald Tablet tells the story of Hermes Trismegistus, who is said to have been born from the union of the god Thoth and a mortal woman. As a child, Hermes showed great intelligence and a remarkable understanding of the mysteries of the universe. He was eventually initiated into the secrets of alchemy by his father, Thoth, and went on to become one of the greatest alchemists of all time.
According to the myth, Hermes inscribed his knowledge of alchemy on an emerald tablet, which he then hid away in a secret location. The tablet was said to contain the key to unlocking the secrets of the universe, including the nature of God, the creation of the world, and the transmutation of matter.
Over the centuries, many alchemists and philosophers have searched for the Emerald Tablet, hoping to unlock its secrets and gain the power of transmutation. Some have claimed to have found the tablet, while others believe that it is still hidden away, waiting to be discovered by a worthy seeker.
Despite the many legends and myths surrounding the Emerald Tablet, it remains one of the most enduring symbols of alchemy and the quest for spiritual and material transformation.
This tablet is most important. It is directly linked with the myth of the Axis Mundi, the Omphalos and even the Holy Grail.
Why ? Because the Emerald Tablet is said to one of the numerous forms taken by the Navel of the Universe. The Emerald Tablet is also related to the Grail because it shared one of its mythical origins: the Emerald of Lucifer.
Yes, in one of the legend, the Emerald of Lucifer splitted in two. One got carved into the Holy Grail, the other into the Tablet. Just like the Grail, the Gnostics, like the Cathars, revered the Emerald Tablet as the vessel offering the most pure and holy of food: spiritual enlightenment. It makes the practitioner one with the forces of Earth and the Cosmos and become immortal. But you must constantly feed off the Tablet.
Once again, a mineral is associated with a divine food. This very interesting....
Now, the Emerald Tablet opens us to the study of Alchemy and the Philosopher's Stone.
Which we'll do next."
Izmia closed the book.
Now, the most interesting thing will soon be revealed.
